Stoneware, raised-relief and applied decoration. A pewter relief band wraps around the entire stein's black glazed stoneware body and features a five-panel mural of King Charlemagne, his guards, and royal subjects. Eight separate cast pewter lions and crowns are then applied to the stein's octagonal base. Four hand-painted gold-leaf bands complete the body decoration. On top of the ornate pewter lid is a figure of a knight in full armor. This stein is produced in a worldwide limited edition of 5,000 individually numbered pieces. Made by Thewalt, Germany.
